In May 2019, the Federal Council adopted a package of measures to enhance the potential of the domestic workforce. Seven measures in all aim to
- safeguard the competitiveness of older workers,
- enable job seekers who are hard to place to enter the employment market and
- integrate foreigners living in Switzerland more effectively into that market.
Persons over the age of 60 who are no longer entitled to unemployment benefits and cannot find another job despite great efforts are also to receive a bridging benefit which safeguards their standard of living until they reach ordinary retirement age.
As part of the Federal Council’s package of measures, additional funds are to be made available to the unemployment insurance scheme for the years 2020 to 2022 in order to provide greater support for older job seekers and others whose return to the world of work is more difficult:
